PRINTING FOR A GREENER PLANET - A NATURAL WAY TO PRINT
Britannia Press has a management commitment to raise environmental awareness and meet key State and Federal environmental legislation. We encourage clients to consider using FSC certified recycled, post consumer waste (PCW) paper, and where virgin fibre paper is required, an environmentally friendly paper can be specified, made from chlorine free pulp, from renewable plantations. Vegetable/Soy based inks, alcohol-free solutions, and low VOC chemicals are also used. We believe environmental performance is key to sustainability and future success of this Business and this Planet!

For eco-friendly printing, we have become FSC compliant throughout our Company, and have implemented the following changes in our production. Film developer contains highly toxic silver crystals, so we invested in computer-to-plate technology dispensing with film entirely. We purchased a 5-color Heidelberg press in 2005, influenced strongly by its potential to improve environmental performance. Automatic plate changing, registration and color calibration reduced waste dramatically. Reverse osmosis unit minimises water use, IPA emissions, and noise pollution, improves print quality and increases press speed. Solvent use is only 10% of Environmental Protection Act limit. Output of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) cut by converting to vegetable from mineral oil based inks. We are testing vegetable-based cleaning agents. Waste ink is transported and broken down to non-hazardous liquid by (environment friendly) biodigestion. Ink cans and plates taken away to be crushed, melted down and re-used as pure aluminium. All paper spoilage, cartons and plastic containers taken for further recycling.

There are many different types and brands of recycled paper to select from, depending on application, content, availability, and the price/economy factor of each Client.
